Thoughts on IMAP and Gmail

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Just switched from POP to IMAP to access my Gmail account. I’d waited ages for Google to enable IMAP on my account and eventually discovered that you have to have your language set to English (USA) not English(UK) as I was using – changing the language and the IMAP options instantly appeared.
I’m annoyed though that IMAP performance is every bit as bad as I remember – Apple Mail has never been a speed demon but it’s downright slow now. Opening a window to write a new mail takes a second or so – long enough to notice. We’ll see how this experiment plays out.

Trying out Flock

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I’m poking about with Flock to see if I really want to be connected to everyone at all moments of the day. Also hoping this bloging tool will work – one of the reasons I tend not to blog interesting things is the disconnect between reading and writing while browsing – maybe this will make me blog more?
